Coalition for the Northeast Corridor Testifies Before House Appropriation Committee on Importance of Investing in Rail Infrastructure Projects Along Corridor
(Washington, D.C.) – The Coalition for the Northeast Corridor (CNEC) testified today before the House Appropriations Committee on a hearing entitled “Rail Safety and Infrastructure-Stakeholder Perspectives.”
Drexel University’s President, John Fry, testified on behalf of CNEC. Mr. Fry’s testimony called for increased and sustained federal funding across the corridor for numerous projects in multiple states. “Congress and federal policymakers must realize that countless businesses and stakeholders of all types rely on the Northeast Corridor to conduct commerce and to ensure their employees arrive reliably and safely to work each day,” said Michael Friedberg, Executive Director of CNEC. “Having a university President like John Fry provide representation and a voice for the Corridor before the House Appropriations is a critical step towards achieving our broader agenda of educating stakeholders on the need for increased federal infrastructure investment in rail. We are honored for the opportunity and urge the House and Congress to increase funding for the Corridor.”

The Coalition for the Northeast Corridor (CNEC) is the business community’s voice for strengthening this infrastructure to reduce congestion, create jobs and grow the economy. We represent diverse stakeholders who rely on the Corridor to access customers, transport employees and conduct commerce. The Northeast Corridor is America’s most important transportation asset. Nearly a million Americans rely on the railway to get to work and return home to their families each day. Unfortunately, it is crumbling – and our nation’s economy is paying the price.
