(Washington, D.C.) – The Coalition for the Northeast Corridor (CNEC) applauds the Northeast Corridor Commission's release of the CONNECT NEC 2035 (C35), a 15-year plan designed to make improvements to NEC rail service for existing and new riders on commuter and Amtrak rail systems.
“As the oldest and most traveled passenger railroad in the nation, targeted investment and planning are essential for sustainability along the Northeast Corridor (NEC or Corridor)," said CNEC Executive Director Michael Friedberg. "The CONNECT NEC 2035 (C35) plan demonstrates a strong commitment from federal, state, local, and private entities to provide access to high-quality rail services across the NEC. As directed by the C-35 plan, revitalization efforts will improve mobility and services for commuters, provide long-term economic viability for the region, and create access to well-paying jobs. Members of the Coalition stand ready to work with the Northeast Corridor Commission, the federal government, and state transportation agencies to accomplish this plan."
Plan Highlights
Faster Amtrak Acela between DC-NYC and NYC-Boston
A 33 percent increase in Amtrak intercity service
Doubles the service for commuter railroads
Establishes an estimated 1.7 million new jobs over the next 15 years
CNEC is the business community’s voice for strengthening rail infrastructure in order to reduce congestion, create jobs and grow the economy. We represent diverse stakeholders who rely on the Corridor to conduct commerce, access customers, and transport employees.
